Wine and Trains in Beaune

All is right in the world when I can get a Grand Cru wine by the glass...with lunch!

It was actually a 2006. Oh my, was this fabulous. The waiter and I did some mutual celebrating of the experience. Some bricking in the glass, lots of cherry and current, with an incredibly long and opening finish. A very attractive earthiness. Of course it changed with the flammenkuchen I ordered...I actually almost teared up just a little at how perfect this wine was. A real masterpiece.

All was certainly right with the world. And...the weather cleared up!
Time for a visit to the train station to see if we can figure out how to get to the Paris airport on Wed during the rail strike. We had hoped to change our train ticket for a train that is running if ours is one of the cancelled ones. We have a hotel booked close to the airport so we can fly out early Thur.

The ticket agent, however, was not encouraging. First of all, he could not yet tell which trains would be running. Next, he couldn't change our tickets to one we saw online would be running, as nothing is clear for him to rebook until the day before. And then he presented us with the final problem...due to the strike HE may not even be there! Mon Dieu!
So...we're thinking we need a plan B.

Not likely.
Down the road a bit was a car rental place. We stopped in to inquire about a one way rental to Paris. Odd...the agent just looked at us kind of quizzedly and made a phone call. She told us they would check and call her back. Doesn't sound holefull to me! When they called back, they explained to George

Their closest drop off to the Paris airport is Versailles...too far. So, that was a bust.
There's no bus service from here. There's no local airport.
So, short of finding the autoroute, as they're called here...and stickimg our thumb out (as the guy we met on the train yesterday did on a strike day earlier in the month), we're putting all our eggs in the train basket, so to speak.
So, what to do with the rest of our afternoon? We' ve already seen the Hospices du Beaune, and the Musee du Cuvee last time we were here. So, we walked the ramparts wall around the entire central section of  Beaune. It's a great walk! Now we're back at our hotel, which I realized when we got here yesterday is the very same one we stayed in when we were here in 2014 with out Rick Steves tour! I totally did not realize that as I booked it!
